What’s a person to do. On the one hand a seemingly well intentioned moderate neophyte, on the other a seemingly well intentioned moderate old guy. I’m a cynic. Charisma makes me a little nervous. On the other hand someone who really intends to stay the course with anything that Bush has done also makes me nervous. Let’s face it, for all the talk about change, strait talk, knowledge, hope, experience, and hope, these guys are politicians with relatively little new about them. We’re just so tired and fed up with Bush, anyone who can speak, is honest, believes in restraint or is moderate looks good to us and looks like “change” and “hope.”
The problem is these guys aren’t really any different than we have seen before. Hell, even George W. came to power on the “Washington is rotten” theme. And we’ve all seen what a joke that was. We want desperately for it to be true that “this time will be different.” It rarely is.
So I have the dilemma. Who to vote for? Why? I think I’ll go with the new guy – hope springs eternal. No, wait a second, the world is a scary place, I think I’ll go with the old guy. What’s wrong with security? No, wait a second, the old guy wants to continue all these crappy policies, I think I’ll go with the new guy. No, wait a second, the new guy says change but seems to want to solve problems like many liberals before him, I think I’ll go with the old guy. To hell with it. Who cares?
